ST. ALBORNE CD REVIEW

ST. ALBORNE CD REVIEW

ST. ALBORNE is from Philadelphia PA. Their 8 Track, Self Produced, Self Titled CD has a lot to offer. If your looking to rip some ones face off this is not for you. The CD is very soulful and laid back. But don’t get me wrong , this is not at all sleeper. Bass Player John Mangan and Drummer Rob Smith lay some funky rhythms and Singer Damon Small shows his versatility on songs The Last Goodbye and Final Call. The song I like most on the disc is One Night Stand. Why ? Well, according to Damon Small “this is the song that gets those freaky ass bitches in the mother fucken mood.” The song just rocks. Bottom line there are 8 solid songs on this CD.

Band: Rob Smith (Drums), Damon Small (Vocals), Joe Napoli (Guitars), John Mangan (Bass)

Track List:

28 West Duval St.

Take Me To Your God

Excuse Me Miss

A Man Must Be Strong

One Night Stand

Last Goodbye

Don’t Save Me

Final Call

Show Review: Drowning Pool, Nonpoint, Dropveil and Absolution 5-28-10 Eleanor Rigby’s / Jermyn, PA

Eleanor Rigby’s in Jermyn, PA was rocked last night by Drowning Pool and Nonpoint with openers Dropveil and Absolution. First let me tell you I have never been to an all ages show where the under 21 was kept away from the stage. To access the pit area you had to enter through the bar. I thought this was a bad move.

With that being said, the show was great. Openers Dropveil and Absolution did a great job with their sets. By the time Nonpoint got on the stage the place was packed, you couldn’t move and it seem like there was no air in the room at all. They really got the crowd charged up and ready for Drowning Pool. After the set change Drowning Pool came out and delivered. They played all the staple songs as well as a few new songs from their new self titled CD that come out April 27th.

Interview with Twisted Sister Guitarist Eddie Ojeda 5-01-10

Interview with Twisted Sister Guitarist Eddie Ojeda at Alto Music in Middle Town, NY. Saturday, May 01, 2010

RN: Do you plan on releasing another solo CD?

EO: I am doing another CD. I have plenty of songs. Right now I have about 4 songs recorded.

RN: Any idea on when it might be released?

EO: I’m not trying to rush any thing. By the end of this year, early next year.

RN: Will there be any guest artist on it?

EO: Yes there will be.

RN: Do you know who?

EO: I don’t know who yet, but hopefully some interesting people. It depends what direction the song goes in. A lot of the time I don’t know until I start recording it. My process is, I try to do things one thing at time instead of doing the whole thing at once. When you record, a lot of the time, different ideas come in to your head. You might want to change things around.

RN: Do you try to match the vocalist to the song after you write?

EO: Basically that’s what I try to do. With the song “Tonight” I pictured Ronnie (James Dio) singing it. And it was perfect. When I started singing it myself, I said to myself it sounds kind of like a Dio song, or something he would do. I could tell it would really fit his voice.

RN: Do you have any shows planed for Twisted Sister?

EO: So far we have about 15 shows lined up this year but they’re all festivals in Europe.

RN: Do you plan on doing any shows to support you new CD when it comes out?

EO: I would like to. It depends on my schedule with Twisted and other things I’m trying to do. If it’s possible. I would like to. But I don’t know right now. As far as doing that, it’s nice to promote when you put out an album, it’s nice to go out and tour behind it, but sometimes with the state of the economy it’s not the best thing to do right now.

RN: Do you plan on doing another Twisted album?

EO: We talked about it, and Dee and I have written a few songs.

RN: So you have songs written?

EO: Yes, but I think they will end up on my solo album. As far as doing another Twisted album, I never say never, because you never know. So we’ll see what happens, but it doesn’t look like its going to happen.

RN: Any time soon or not at all?

EO: Most likely, not at all, but like I said you never know.

RN: Are you working on any thing you may want people to know about?

EO: I’m working on a TV show, a situation comedy. I’m also doing some writing with Lynn Hoffman from A & E, she does Private Sessions. We are working on it and it’s in development so well see what happens.

CD Review Lynam – Tragic City Symphony

CD Review Lynam – Tragic City Symphony

Lynam is not one of those throw back bands that try to sound like what influenced them to play in the first place. Their sound reminds me of where they came from yet it‘s original . Their influences bleed through on almost every song without ripping anyone off. Tragic City Symphony is full of catchy hooks and melodies and at times reminds me of bands like Heaven’s Edge, Def Leppard and Skid Row. Special guest Tom Keifer of Cinderella shows up playing slid guitar on the song Enemy as does the band Hinder doing backing vocals. I encourage every one to check these guys out.

Ratt Infestation at the TLA in Philadelphia PA 5-8-10

Show Review Ratt Philadelphia PA 5-8-10

Touring behind their new CD Infestation, Ratt played the TLA on South St. in Philadelphia, May 8th .They played all the songs every one wanted to hear. The Opening song “Your In Love” sounded a little off but by the time they got to second song “Lay It Down” the sound was more balanced and the rest of the set sounded great. They played a lot of classic songs like, “Way Cool Jr.”, “Lovin You Is A Dirty Job” and “I Want A Women” and they closed with “Round And Round“.

It would be hard to pick and any stand out moments in this show because it really was a good show as a whole. As a fan I was happy to hear the set they played. I just hope they finish this tour as friends with out trying to sue one another and make another CD.

Lynam – Guitarist / Singer Jacob Interviewed

Jacob From Lynan Interviewed

RN: So how is the tour going? The other night I caught you guys opening for Cinderella in Philadelphia. That was a great show.

Jacob: It was so much fun. It was slammed. Cinderella is one of my favorite bands. We’ve played a bunch of shows with them and it‘s always fun.

RN: When did the Tragic City Symphony CD come out.

Jacob: It’s kind of crazy in August 2008 we released Tragic City Symphony on our own. And the song “Save My Soul “ went to radio and it went to top 5 on the Active Rock Independent Chart. And after that labels started calling and reaching out and wanting to do a deal. We already decided after we got through with our Universal deal that were not going to go with another major. But people started making really good offers and it made sense so we ended up going with Megaforce. The record that you have is the one we put out on our own. The new one has the labels logos on it but it’s the exact same album. And they released it in August 2009 so they came out a year apart.

RN: Tragic City Symphony sounds like a combination between Life In Reverse and Slave To The Machine was that what you guys where going for?

Jacob: It’s definitely what we where going for. Slave To The Machine was more like a stripped down rock n roll record. With Tragic City Symphony we wanted it to be real polished. So we got the guy that did Pyromania, Hysteria and all those great Def Leppard records. We got the guy that mixed that. We got Jason Elgin to mix a track. Mike Shipley to mix a track we got Beau Hill the guy that did all the Ratt, Winger and Warrant records to mix a track. We went over board on the production because we decided we wanted something real polished just to do it. Just to make it larger than life sounding. Our next record will be way stripped down again. So we’re having fun with it.

RN: I love Slave To The Machine it’s a great CD.

Jacob: That’s Tom Keifer’s favorite out of all of them. That’s what turned him on to us originally. He loved the album and one day our Manager called and said hey Tom Keifer from Cinderella wants you to call him. I called him he said I got your record from when we played dates together on the Poison tour and I have to tell you it the best record I have heard in years and he wanted the guy that mixed the record Jason Elgin to do some stuff for his solo record. That’s how the friendship started.

RN: When will you be releasing your next CD?

Jacob: We had a new record written for a while now. But we have not gotten around to recording it because we have been busy touring behind Tragic City Symphony. But this year we will get around to recording.

RN: Do you have any plans on recording a live CD? Your CDs really don’t do your live shows any justice. Live you guys are a lot heavier. It’s almost like two different bands.

Jacob: Yes we have talked about doing a live album at some point. It’s just been really hard to coordinate. But we would eventually like to do one for sure.

RN: What I like about you guys is that you’re not a throw back band. You’re a new version of what I grew up listening to. You can hear where you guys came from but at the same time you’re not trying to redo what’s been done.

Jacob: I’m glade you said that. Because that’s how we feel too. And the challenge is when you open up for a band like Cinderella or Motley Crue it’s a lot different that opening for God Smack or Hinder or a lot of the newer bands. Because the 15 and 16 year olds that show up to watch Hinder play. You don’t have to be on top of your game because these people haven’t been to a lot of shows. You don’t have to be on top of your game to make them think you did a kick ass show. When your playing for Cinderella fans or Motley Crue fans, people who have been to a million shows, and are very hard core music lovers you better be on you’re A game or they will call you out. Because these fans here are music fans they’ve been to several shows and they know what’s up.

RN: What do you like most about touring?

Jacob: The coolest thing to me is meeting people after the show. People that respect the music. People that are fans of what we’re doing and meeting true music fans. That’s the best part of touring for me.

RN: Tell us how the Ship Rocked Cruise works. You guys are booked to be on that again right ?

Jacob: We play one or 2 nights. If you’re an artist you have to do meet n greets. That’s our favorite part. Again music is my life and I love meeting people sitting talking music that’s the best thing in the world to me. We play one or 2 nights. The big bands, like last year it was Queensryche, Ratt us and Skid Row. Ratt, Skid Row and Queensryche they only played one night. The newer bands like us we play twice. And you have a few days off in between. Than there’s all kinds of activities on the ship that the artist participate in. Family Feud was one of them we did last time, it was us against another band. Like Rock N Roll Jeopardy stuff like that, it’s a lot of fun. If any one gets the opportunity to go on one of those Ship Rocked Cruises I would definitely recommend it.
