Philadelphia based Deadbolt interviewed

On Saturday August 14th Deadbolt played The Trocadero Balcony Bar in their home town Philadelphia PA for the first time in ten years. The band Chris Hamilton (drums former BLOODSIMPLE, DOWNSET), Rian Poltrone (guitar), Dave McCallion (guitar) and Tom Prenatt (bass) have reunited with the addition of Rich Books on vocals (ORCUS ). The band played some old favorites as well as a killer power  jam toward the end of their set. You would never know ten years has gone by since they played here. The band was tight and the crowd was hungry for more.

Set List Was As Follows:

Blank

Zero Level
Promised Nothing
Broke
Pressure Gauge
jam
Surreal
Clench

I had a chance to sit down and interview the guys before their set. Check it out.

RN: What brought you guys back together?

Chris Hamilton: It’s kind of a long story but, Rian and I grew up together. We have played in different bands. I heard he was jamming again and I was home from playing with the bands I was in and I wanted to get it kicking again. That’s it really, we just wanted to play music together again.

RN: Since you guys have been back together has the sound of the band changed?

Tom Prenatt: We are very simple, we are super heavy and we have a groove.

Rian Poltrone: With us, it’s just a feel. We are really into the groove of the music. We kind of play simple music but it’s all about the feel, the groove and being locked in. we’re not playing fast all the time and technical we just like to lock in.

RN: What made you guys want to add Rich as the singer?

Chris Hamilton: We have known Rich forever. He helped push us along a bit in terms of getting me off my ass to jam.

RN: When you joined what was it like to drop your bass and front the band?

Rich Books: Yeah in Orcus I play bass and do vocals but this, I wanted to do something a little different for myself. It worked out great a little strange at first but I really am enjoying it now.

Tom Prenatt: It helps with the dynamics of the band. I’m not glued to the microphone that always bothered me because I like to move.

RN: I wanted to know since you guys got back together has there been any thought in changing the name of the band? The reason I’m asking is there is another band called Deadbolt in San Diageo.

Chris Hamilton: That was part of the plan when we put this thing back together. Rian and I wanted to make this a whole different thing. We are going to change the name.

Rian Poltrone: We don’t have any ideas yet of what it’s going to be. We have put a lot into this so we want it to be something that’s going to represent who we are and what we are doing.

Interview with Anchored

Anchored Bio Taken From Their MySpace

Texas has been known to breed some of the loudest and hard-rockin’ bands this side of Dallas and this new gang of five are definitely no exception. Straight out of the saloons and strip clubs comes ANCHORED, a hard-edged rock unit that packs as much pop as their punch when they unleash their brand of “Dirty Texas Rock”. Crossing the tainted lines between Shinedown, Nickelback and Stone Temple Pilots, these Dallas transplants will be bringing their Southern noise to the masses in 2010 and everybody is invited.

Formed in the spring of 2009 as a new project by ex-Advent singer Brandan Narrell whose chance meeting with guitarist B.G. Simpson (formally of South Florida alternative rockers Waking Season) sparked a friendship and partnership after being introduced by Splender leader Waymon Boone. Joining the tandem is drummer Matty Clark, who previously held down drum duties for the Sacramento, CA band Bidwell, current Faktion guitarist Josh Franklin handling the bass duties, and ex-Venture guitarist Joel Estes rounding out the quintet on guitars. As all the members garnered moderate success with their post-Anchored outfit, their previous experiences honing their collective craft as musicians have them poised to interrupt the current climate of active rock for some time to come.

Front man Brandan was originally recommended by the legendary ex-Pantera and current Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul, to audition for the singer vacancy in Drowning Pool shortly after singer Dave Williams had passed away while Waking Season and Faktion were all touring the country around the same time in the mid-2000s on national tours in support of the likes of Papa Roach, Hinder and Seether. There is something to be said about the level of talent that comprises the newly-formed Anchored. Luckily for rock fans in the lone-star state and across the country, these seasoned rock veterans found each other and just wrapped up a national tour with Saliva in support of their debut album, that will be released in May 2010. Anchored also just played in Houston for modern rock station 94.5 The Buzz’s annual Buzzfest, whose line-up festivities also includes 30 Seconds To Mars, Three Days Grace, Seether, the mighty Deftones, and the reunited Limp Bizkit to name a few. Not a terrible way for the boys of Anchored to get their boots a little dirty by any means.

RN: How is it being on tour with Adler‘s Appetite?

B.G. Simpson: The tour is going great. It’s an honor to be on tour with Adler’s Appetite.

RN: Are you going to finish out the Adler tour?

Brandan Narrell: Yes. These guys are so cool. We made life long friends on this tour. They have me get on stage and sing paradise city every night.

B.G. Simpson: They come out after every the show and meet everyone.

Brandan Narrell: Depending how big the stage is, a lot of bands will make the opener set their drums up on the floor giving the opener no room at all. Steven (Adler) will let Matty (Clark) use his drums whenever. And that’s bad ass in my opinion. It’s not all about them in till the lights go down and they get on the stage.

RN: Tell us about you CD “Listen To This”?

Brandan Narrell: It was released early this year. Our first single “Dirty In Texas” cracked the Billboard Top 50. And we will be touring on this CD through out this year and through out next spring.

RN: Are you guys already writing for a follow up?

B.G. Simpson: We are writing for a follow up now. We hope to have that out some time next year. It really depends how long we can ride on this one. If more touring opportunities open up than it will take longer to get it out.

Brandan Narrell: According to the radio people we have at least two more singles that can come from this CD. And if that’s the case a follow up will take longer to write a follow up.

RN: Brandan, I read in the band bio that Vinnie Paul (ex-Pantera and current Hellyeah drummer) recommended you to Drowning pool. How did that come about?

Brandan Narrell: Vinnie wanted me to try out for Damage Plan. I got to play with Dime. In my opinion he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. They are the brothers that invented the power groove. I’ll never forget it.

RN: Why didn’t you get that gig?

Brandan Narrell: They wanted to go heavier and I was moving more toward what we are doing now. Right after Dave’s passing (Dave Williams) Vinnie called me and said that Drowning Pool wanted me to try out for them. So I did three songs with them. I did “Bodies” “Sinner” and “Tare Away” When they heard it; they said it sounded too much like Dave. It was just too much to soon for them. This was just two months after he passed. It wasn’t a let down because they went through a tough time. In the end I think every thing happens for a reason. They are kicking ass with Ryan from Soil now. And we are doing our thing.

3 PILL MORNING INTERVIEWED

3 PILL MORNING

Friday July 23rd. The band 3 Pill Morning played to a packed Eleanor Rigby’s Night Club in Jermyn PA.opening for the band Framing Hanley. Matt Burke (Drums), Kyle Glidden (Bass) laid the foundation for what was to be a killer eight song set. And when Ryan Walch (guitar) started the intro to Rage Against The Machine’s “Guerilla Radio” the place went crazy. The band is rounded out by Singer Jeff Stebbins. With his high energy performance and the pipes to go with it he had the front row holding on to his every word. These guys put on a great show. Check the bands website for tour dates.

SET LIST WAS AS FOLLOWS:

Confrontation (New Song)

Nothing’s Real

Hear Me Now

Guerilla Radio (R.A.T.M. Cover)

Loser

I interviewed the band earlier in the day. Read On:

RN: How’s the tour going?

Jeff Stebbins: It’s been great. We have been out for about three weeks now on the Framing Hanley Tour. And before this we did a few dates with Papa Roach and have of been all over the country playing shows. It’s been going really well for us.

Kyle Glidden: Tonight we will be playing two new songs showing people what the new album is going to be like.

RN: What kind of reaction has your new songs been getting from your fans that are familiar with you older stuff?

Jeff Stebbins: That’s why we wanted to get out and play some markets that we are familiar with and see what the reaction would be. We started this tour in the mid west and we broke out a couple of those new tracks and people have been really responsive to the new music. That’s what we are looking for. We want that feedback of a live show. They seem to be excited. And that gets us excited too.

RN: How would you describe the sound of the new CD?

Kyle Glidden: Radio rock with a heavy edge.

RN: I noticed on you website your back catalog is not listed is there a reason for that?

Jeff Stebbins: I would say over the last three years is when we really established our sound. It’s changed a lot. The band has been together since 2003. And it was very different back then. We are writing songs that we want to be writing now. The back catalog is what it was. And this is what 3 Pill Morning is now.

RN: How many songs do you have written for the new CD?

Jeff Stebbins: We have about fifteen to twenty songs. But now we have to go through the next level of pre- production and start to look at every aspect of the song and see what ends up on the album.

RN: What are some of the inspirations behind the new music that you are writing?

Jeff Stebbins: Past stuff we have written has been relationship based and things like that. The new music is just life in general. Things we have seen on the road, things we have been through.

RN: What musicians influenced you guys to start playing?

Matt Burke: I have been drumming for about eleven years. I seen E.L.P. with my dad in the 90’s I saw Karl Palmer do a drum solo I thought it was the most amazing thing in the world. And it just started from there. My dad was a drummer. So there was a drum set always accessible. And it just kind of went from there.

Kyle Glidden: I have been playing bass for about ten years and the big ones for me was Mudvyne’s L.D.50 and Tool’s Lateralus. Those albums are the last two that I heard that changed something in my head. Justin Chancellor and Ryan Martinie are huge influences on me. Another band is Project 86.

Ryan Walch: When I was a kid a friend of mine gave me a Guns N Roses CD. I heard Slash and that’s when I started playing guitar. Zakk Wylde is a huge influence. I have been playing piano since I was six years old. But after I heard that first Guns N Roses album that was pretty much it.
