Interview with John Fattoruso of Black Water Rising

On Saturday August 14th Black Water Rising played The Trocadero Balcony Bar in Philadelphia PA. When they took the stage they had a huge presence that no one could ignore. They ripped into their first song ‘The Mirror’ followed by ‘Hate Machine’ and ‘Black Bleeds Through‘. By this time you could really see the crowd was hooked, and then they went into their single that is being played on Sirius XM Octane ‘Brother Go On’. Followed by ‘We Are the Authority’, ‘No Halos Last Man Standing’, ‘Living Proof ‘, and ‘Rise’. It was none stop energy throughout their entire set. Black Water Rising puts on a phenomenal show. If you have not heard them yet, or seen them live go to their myspace and check them out. You will not be disappointed.

I ask Guitarist John Fattoruso (Former Stereomud) a few questions before their show. Check It Out.

RN: I noticed you only have a handful of dates, are you going to add more?

John Fattoruso: Because we are not on a label, and we do it all on our own, we have no tour support. It’s done out of our own pocket, so we do limited runs. We’ll do a week and come home. We book tri state area shows. Until something comes through, it’s out of our own pocket.

RN: How is your CD selling? How many have you pushed so far?

John Fattoruso: I think we are up to 4,000 on our own. About 8,000 in downloads. For a band doing it on our own we are proud of ourselves. We don’t have to use the money from our day jobs, we have a band account, and it’s running itself right now.

RN: What are some of the up sides to not being locked in a deal?

John Fattoruso: Because it’s not the universal way of doing an album, there are no worries about chart positions, or A&R people. We don’t have to worry about people telling us what and when to do our thing. We are able to do what ever we have to do. In a way it’s a luxury and in a way it’s not. We have the songs. We have the band. We have the live show. Hopefully it pays off. If not album one then album two. A lot of bands did it that way. Slipknot put out their first album on their own and then album two they went platinum and then they reissued their first self released album. Clutch is another band that did it on their own they built a grass roots following. Our goal is to make a living doing what we do.

RN: I have read a few posts on the internet, people saying they would like to see you guys open for Black Label Society. What bands have you played with?

John Fattoruso: Kings X, Life of Agony, Drowning Pool, W.A.S.P., Nonpoint. Hellyeah was awesome. We opened for J.D.’s (John “JD” DeServio – Black Label Society) band Cycle of Pain. B.L.S. would be an awesome bill. We will play with anybody. We’re not clowns when we get up there, trying to be some other band. We do our thing. People know we have an attuide when we get on stage. People can see a fake from a million miles away. Everyone wants to be Slipknot. Everyone wants to be Metallica. We get up there and we are four fuckin retards from NY. We go up and this is what we do. We don’t act like this guy, we don’t look like that guy. We do our thing and people know we are a real band. Put us on with Alice in Chains, put us on with Lamb Of God, put us on with Slayer and you’re gonna get what we do. And people will get it.

CD Review / Murderdolls – Women And Children Last

Murderdolls are:
Joey Jordison – Drums, Bass, Guitar and Backing Vocals

Wednesday 13 – Vocals, Guitar

Roadrunner Records

Ok where do I start. Wednesday 13 must be the hardest working guy in music. He is the only person I have ever seen announce he will be working on something and have it released with in a month or two. As is the case with his band Wednesday 13, Bourbon Crow and yes the new Murderdolls CD Women And Children Last. You can call this want you want but this sounds like the new Wednesday 13 CD to me. Don’t get me wrong, I really do like Women And Children Last. Its Light hearted and fun to listen to. The melodies are catchy and the guitar solos are old school and Twisted Sister like. Mick Mars (Motley Crue) even makes a guest appearance and has song writing credits on ‘Drag Me To Hell’ and ‘Blood Stained Valentine’. Every time Wednesday 13 comes out with something new I tell everyone they should pick it up. Women And Children Last was not a let down. You should check it out.

Sal Abruscato’s A Pale Horse Named Death

A Pale Horse Named Death the new project lead by Sal Abruscato (Typo-O-Negative, Life Of Agony) reminds me of an evil Alice In Chains. It’s definitely fresh and there is nothing like this out there that I have heard. Each song takes you on a journey. With each song you can actually see the a story unfold in your head. I can not pick a stand out song because this CD is so solid I can’t skip any. I know I have a long wait but I am looking forward to seeing Sal front A Pale Horse Named Death on stage.

Track Listing:

And Hell Will follow Me

As Black As My Heart

To Die In Your Arms

Heroine Train

Devil In The Closet

Cracks In The Walls

Bad Dream

Bath In My Blood (Schizophrenia In Me)

Pill Head

Meat The Wolf

Serial Killer

When Crows Descend Upon You

Die Alone

I sent Sal a few questions. Here’s what he had to say.

RN: Why did you name your new project A Pale Horse Named Death?
Sal Abruscato: I was always fond of the story and imagery of the revelations version of Death on a pale horse so one night watching history channel about revelations and I thought of a play on words and switched it around to A Pale Horse Named Death

RN: I know you have been on tour with LOA and have not had time to really promote A Pale Horse Named Death yet. Are there any fall plans?
Sal Abruscato: The plan is we are signing a deal with Napalm Records and they will release the album in 2011 and there will be summer and fall touring

RN: What inspired you to write some of the songs such as Serial Killer?
Sal Abruscato: the fascination of what runs through a serial killers mind.

RN: Do you have a line up for the live band yet?
Sal Abruscato: working on it as we speak. Will be Matt Brown, Possibly Bobby Hambel and talking to some drummers and bassists.

RN: Any shows planed yet?
Sal Abruscato: Summer 2011 we should start in Europe

RN: How does it feel coming out from behind the drums to front your own band?
Sal Abruscato: Gonna be awesome I am excited to do something new.

RN: You recently posted that you could no longer sell your CD because you got a record deal. Can you comment on that yet? Who is the deal with, when will it be released, will extras on the disc that we (the people that have it) do not have?
Sal Abruscato: Looks like we are about to finalize with Napalm Records. Will be the same track listing.

RN: When will the T-shirts and the rest of your merchandise be available on your website?
Sal Abruscato: The label will be setting up retail merchandise so it’s just a matter of time with logistics.

RN: I feel like I have to ask this even though I know you guys get asked this all the time. Before you went to Europe I spoke to Joey and he had said that there are no plans yet for another LOA CD. Since you guys have been on tour has that changed? Has there been any talk of you guys getting together and writing?
Sal Abruscato: No talks, not that I know of and I just finished writing a whole album so I am pretty focused on APHND

Thank You Sal for a great CD and getting back to us with the Q & A so fast.

Lesbian Bed Death – Designed By The Devil Powered By The Dead – CD Review

Lesbian Bed Death – Designed By The Devil Powered By The Dead
Psychophonic Records

Release Date: October 25th 2010

Band website: www.lesbianbeddeath.net

Label:www.psychophonic.net

Designed by the Devil Powered by the Dead is the second album from Lesbian Bed Death. I knew nothing about this band before receiving this CD in the mail and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Stand out songs for me would have to be ‘Drowning In Your Love’ Bela Lugosi’s Back’ and ‘Catholic sex kittens’ these are the slower more Goth like songs on the disc.

The powerful vocal tracks laid down by vocalist Luci4 are being backed up by Mr. Peach (Rhythm Guitar) Chuckmaster C (Lead Guitar) Danny Stigmata (Drums) Will Power (Bass) and together make a killer a combination of punk, Goth and Sleaze Metal. Designed by the Devil Powered by the Dead has a lot to offer fans of all kinds of heavy music. The CD will be released on October 25th Check out the bands website and Psychophonic Records for more in on pre orders.
