Twisted Sister Show Review
Twisted Sister played the Best Buy Theater in NYC on Friday April 29th to raise money and awareness to a very uncommon eye disease called Uveitis. Jay Jay’s daughter Samantha was found to have Uveitis at age six in a routine eye exam. Every penny raised from tickets sales to merch sales went the Ocular Immunology And Uveitis Foundation.
The Show opened with some words from Jay Jay French and Jay Jay’s daughter Samantha followed by Dr. Stephen Foster.
The entertainment began with ANTIGONE RISING, an all female band from NYC. With all do respect, these ladies rocked in a very mellow way. This is not a band that you would normally see at a metal show. Most of the time when you go to a show to see an iconic band like Twisted Sister you want to throw things at the opener because you just want to see who you came for. This was not the case with ANTIGONE RISING. They brought a different flavor to their performance was well received.
Next up to my surprised Jim Florentine of That Metal Show. This guy is always funny and I think he makes That Metal Show that much better.
And on to the greatest live band in Rock History. What can be said that has not been said already? Twisted Sister came out and kicked our asses. It was hard to hold the camera straight because I wanted to rock with the rest of fans. Twisted opened with, (if you are an S.M.F. you should already know this) “What You Don’t Know (Sure Can Hurt You)” Than went in to “The Kids Are Back” and “Stay Hungry”. Dee Snider asked the fans if they wanted to hear “Captain Howdy” or the “Beast”. The fans answered and “Captain Howdy” was played. The band not only played the staples but pulled some nuggets out as well. For starters after “Captain Howdy” came “Sin After Sin” from the album “Under The Blade”. “You can’t Stop Rock N Roll” was next followed by “The Fire Still Burns” from the “Come Out And Play” record.
Special guest guitarist Bernie Williams from the N.Y. Yankee’s took the stage for “We’re Not Gonna Take It” And The Rabbi Darby Leigh (who is def) stepped in and signed the lyrics to “The Price” as the band played the song.
“Burn In Hell” was next followed by the encore “Come Out and Play’ and followed by another nugget “Tear It Loose”. Do I have to say what the closer was?
The bottom line is if you attended this show you were apart of something special. This was Twisted Sister’s only scheduled U.S. date for this year and it was done for a good great cause.
