9/29 Philadelphia PA The Northstar Bar – Tracii Guns League Of Gentleman, Clashing Plaid and ON TOP
On Top was first to take the stage playing their brand of Heavy Metal that can easily blend with thrash metal bands and hard rock bands alike. The band ripped through a 45 minute set playing songs from their debut CD “Top Heavy“. ON TOP is a great young band with a lot of potential. We play ON TOP on The Rock Nightmare Radio Show every week and I hope to do a feature show with them in the near future.
ON TOP is:
Jaron Gulino – Vocals/Bass
Danny Piselli – Drums
Alex Kulick – Guitar/Vocals
Clashing Plaid has been a staple on the Philadelphia music scene for as long as I can remember. It’s always a fun time catching the Plaid live. There are so many different styles thrown into the mix with these guys. If you live in the Philly PA area and have not had the chance to catch Clashing Plaid live I suggest you check out their up coming dates and get out to a show. Their latest CD “ALL IN” in is finally in my collection and we will be playing songs from it, in the up coming weeks on The Rock Nightmare Radio Show.
The line-up for Clashing Plaid’s show was
Anthony Porter – Vocals/Guitar
Andy Watts -Guitar
Kenny Leso-Bass
John Vouras-Drums
Sometimes when you go to a show, there are problems. You either end up with a bad performance, a canceled show, or in this case something special. I sat in during sound check with The Tracii Guns League Of Gentleman in preparation for their show. It was obvious that lead vocalist Scott Foster Harris was in pain and could barley speak. Turns out he had strep throat and bronchitis.
After sound check the other bands, Clashing Plaid and On Top went on with their respective sets. It was during this time The League Of Gentlemen decided not to cancel but to roll on with Scott on the side lines watching on.
Tracii announced that Scott was unable to perform and if people wanted a refund they were welcome to do so. Tracii went on to say instead of doing their normal set they would play a bunch of cover songs and do a blues/fusion kind of set.
On one hand I was disappointed because I wanted to see what Scott Harris had to offer as a vocalist on the other hand it was refreshing to see a band pull it together at the last minute and have an outstanding show.
I can not speak for everyone that was there but I thought the set was great. With only two L.A.GUNS songs played and the rest of the set being mostly covers, I seen Tracii in a different light so to speak and playing songs I never seen him play. Each member of the band took turns on vocals and the high light of the set for me was the Jimmy Hendrix cover “Hey Joe” sang by drummer Doni Gray. All and all I would say this was a great night of rock n roll.
