Billy Idol re-opened The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, NV, as part of The Roadside Tour in support of his new EP The Roadside. Billy Idol’s residency at The Chelsea ran through Oct 16 ,17 & Oct 22 ,23.

First let me start off by saying The Chelsea is a beautiful split level venue with a great view of the stage no matter where you are sitting. Located inside The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino on the Vegas Strip. There is a lot of fun to be had before and after a show in Vegas.

Billy Idol opened the show with Cradle Of Love from 1990’s Charmed Life album to an enthusiastic audience. Then before the second song a very special guest came out to the stage. It was Billy’s Grand Daughter Poppy. If this was planned I was fooled because I was at the foot of the stage and Billy looked genuinely surprised and very happy to see her as he picked her up and held her she pointed to the audience.

Next up Generation X’s Dancing With My Self a song that was also re-released on Idol’s 1982 self titled solo debut. And then my favorite Billy Idol song Flesh For Fantasy from the 1983 release of Rebel Yell.

The band was tight and sounded great. Billy’s voice sounded as good as it ever did. Guitarist Steve Stevens is always fun to watch and Guitarist Billy Morrison killed it. Bassist Stephen Mcgrath and Drummer Erik Eldenius kept everything locked in and Paul Trudeau handled the Keys and extra Guitar duties.

The show went on to include songs such as Scream, Mony Mony, Eyes Without A Face, Rebel Yell, White Wedding and songs from The Roadside EP Rita Hayworth, You Don’t Have To Kiss Me Like That and Bitter Taste.

The new songs fit perfectly in the setlist proving Billy Idol still has what it takes to write great music and stay relevant in today’s musical landscape.
